Natural disasters are already causing immense damage around the world—and the trend is rising. At the same time, the gap between actual losses and insured losses continues to grow. For companies, this means increasing risks while protection options remain limited.

For SIMONA, one thing is clear: doing nothing is not an option. By acting early, companies not only contribute to climate protection, but also strengthen their own resilience and long-term viability.

Actively Analyzing and Understanding Climate Risks
With this in mind, SIMONA conducted a comprehensive climate risk analysis. Its aim is to systematically assess how climate-related risks may affect sites and processes—both today and in the future.

The analysis considers both acute risks, such as extreme weather events, and long-term developments. These include, among others:

rising temperatures and their impact on working conditions and production processes

changes in precipitation patterns and water availability

risks to infrastructure and logistics from heavy rainfall, flooding or storms

regulatory and economic changes resulting from the transformation

The analysis provides a solid basis for identifying risks at an early stage, deriving targeted measures and seizing opportunities—for example by making sites more resilient and processes more efficient.

Practical Insights: Keynote by Karsten Schwanke
The keynote delivered by meteorologist and TV presenter Karsten Schwanke at SIMONA’s Global Management Meeting, complemented by further expert insights from the management consultancy Allfoye, also showed how climate change can have very tangible impacts on companies.

In his presentation, he emphasized that the often-cited 1.5-degree target is a global average—with regional impacts that can be significantly more severe. Rising temperatures, heavier precipitation and more frequent extreme weather events will affect individual sites in different ways.

This dynamic highlights why a differentiated assessment of climate risks is so important. Karsten Schwanke clearly demonstrated that companies need not only to consider global developments, but also to understand their specific local impacts and translate them into business action.

Act Now to Be Prepared
The combination of sound analysis and external expert input makes one thing clear: climate risks are diverse, complex—and above all, already a reality.

For SIMONA, this means taking responsibility and acting with foresight. After all, companies that identify risks early can not only avoid damage, but also make deliberate use of emerging opportunities.

At the same time, the message is clear: companies should address the impacts of climate change early on and prepare appropriate measures. A robust data basis, dialogue with experts and a strategic approach are key success factors.

Because one thing is certain: the course for tomorrow is being set today.

More detailed information and the results of SIMONA AG’s climate risk analysis can be found in the 2025 Sustainability Report.

The economic consequences of climate change are no longer an abstract issue for the future.
